Helen Cooper - Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist
Helen is a Gordonvale local who graduated in Physiotherapy from Queensland University in 1981, has a Masters of Sports Physio from La Trobe University and is a APA Titled Sports Physiotherapist.
Since then Helen has worked in many areas of physiotherapy in various settings including Paediatric Physiotherapy with Child Health and Cootharinga and as a physiotherapist for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Helen has a special interest in Spinal Cord Injury as her father spent over 20 years in a wheelchair after a farming accident.
Helen is an active member in the community providing Sports Training, Coaching and First Aid services to local rugby league, AFL and Sporting Wheelies teams. Also, providing services to the Annual Great Pyramid Race, Indigenous Rugby League Carnivals and other sporting events.
Helen is a Masters Swimmer and Coach with interest in managing swimming injuries and performance. Helen assists the Queensland Academy of Sport with local athletes on their programs and injury recovery when needed.
Helen has a special interest in persistant pain and in 2017 attended a 2 week workshop at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.
Helen has done further studies in Women's Health Physiotherapy and hopes this added knowledge will make Gordonvale Physiotherapy the only place you need to go to for all physiotherapy related issues. Helen has recently upskilled in Men's Health and is a member of "the Hip Academy", a group who are promoting further knowledge in the management of hip and pelvic pain.
Kareena Korinihona - Physiotherapist
Kareena is a Gordonvale local who graduated in Physiotherapy from James Cook University in 2015. Since becoming a physiotherapist, she has worked extensively in private practice in Cairns and Victoria. She has a special interest in Vestibular Rehabilitation, having recently completed an advanced course in this area.
Kareena has a special interested in neurological conditions such as stroke, head injury and Cerebral Palsy.
Kareena recently did advanced training in painful and weak hips which are common with aging.
Kareena, like Helen and Tess, is trained in Dry Needling which is a method of treating soft tissue injuries with acupuncture needles. Kareena is able to incorporate Pilates mat and reformer work into her rehabilitation services and is looking to start some exercise classes for over 60s.
Kareena has been involved in providing services to remote villages of Papau New Guinea with YWAM Medical ships. Kareena has worked with AFL teams and will be helping out with physio and first aid to local Gordonvale sporting teams.
Greg Cooper - Allied Health and Therapy Assistant Level 2
Greg graduated in Physiotherapy in 1979, he also completed a Bachelor of Health Science in 2015 and has been an on-road Paramedic with Qld Ambulance Service for over 12years.
Greg has an extensive list of training & qualifications including Certificate 3 in Sports Trainer, Cert 4 in Personal Training and has been a registered exercise professional for 10 years.
Greg a strong interest in exercise therapy and is keen to work with participants in helping them to achieve their goals.
David Holzheimer - Practice Manager
David has many years of experience in office duties and is a vital member of our team.
David's knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and his ability to aid participant's in understanding their plan is a great resource to our practice.
David is also the Team Manager of the Cairns Hoopsnakes a wheelchair basketball team and is the Program Officer for Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association.
